Orbital Slots

Kypros Satellites has applied for and been granted priority rights to nine (9) orbital slots and their associated spectrum resources from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). These orbital slots were chosen to facilitate a range of satellite network designs and configurations, continental and oceanic coverages, and are not tied to any one particular market or technology concept. The ITU filings support fixed, broadcast and mobile satellite services for many terminal types and sizes enhancing the attractiveness, usability and value of Kypros Satellites’ spectrum assets.

After careful review, the ITU filings were selected on the basis the following characteristics:

  • Ka-band spectrum – Each orbital slot has up to 3GHz of usable Ka-band spectrum to support broadband via satellite services.
  • Strategic positions – Each orbital slot facilitating a vast amount of deployable services / offered capacity in conjunction with multi-beam satellites.
  • Global coverage – Coverage from three or more orbital slots is sufficient for a global satellite constellation suitable for mobile services over land, sea, air and space.
Kypros Satellites has completed all of the required ITU filings and is proceeding with frequency coordination of the following orbital slots through the administration of the Republic of Cyprus:

Satellite Network Filing Orbital Slot Frequency Bands
KYPROS-ARTEMIS 174.5° W C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-APOLLO 56.0° W C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-POSEIDON 52.5° W C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-ATHENA 22.5° E C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-ZEUS 54.0° E C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-HERMES-2 57.0° E UHF / S / C / X / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-ARES 89.5° E C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-APHRODITE 90.0° E C / Ku / Ka
KYPROS-HERA 107.5° E C / Ku / Ka

Each orbital slot has up to 3 GHz of usable Ka-band spectrum and some C- and Ku-band spectrum which can be used as feeder links or for hybrid services providing further revenue.  One orbital slot also has rights to military UHF, S-band and X-band spectrum.

Kypros Satellites will share additional information with interested parties prepared to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and will grant non-exclusive contracted usage rights on the basis of a term-sheet provided to serious, well-qualified parties.
